After the stone was sent south for conservation it was returned to Orkney and is now on loan to us." The Sanday stone bears the name of the engineer Oskati or Askati. The final R being the start of the word \u2018resist\u2019 which means carved." Until recently it was making a decorative gate to a house in Sanday but was gifted to the Heritage Centre. The Wanja sailed from Florida en route to Sweden when it floundered at Whitemill Point on the island. This was on the 14th of October 1939, the same day as the Royal Oak was torpedoed and sunk in Scapa Flow."
