<dcterms:title><![CDATA[The Terrarium]]></dcterms:title>
<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Shezad Dawood works across disciplines including film, painting, neon, sculpture and Virtual Reality to deconstruct systems of image, language, site and narrative. His practice often involves collaboration and knowledge exchange, mapping across geographic borders and communities. Dawood is well known for Leviathan, a five-year multifaceted project exploring three urgent issues of our time: climate change, migration and mental health.

The Terrarium highlights the implications of climate change for marine ecosystems, and the consequences of rising sea levels, incorporating references to the Baltic and Kent coastlines. The VR experience transports you 300 years into the future where the surface of Planet Earth is 90% water. Transformed into a sophisticated cephalopod hybrid and released from a laboratory into the open seas, you are unexpectedly captured by future humans engaged in the pillaging of the planet.

The VR is accompanied by a wall painting that references the sound mirrors that punctuate the Kent landscape and signal a motif of listening: audiences are sonically immersed in Shifter: The Terrarium Triad, a new musical score by British composer Graham Fitkin that explores the “shifting baseline syndrome”. This theory suggests each generation makes an unconscious shift in expectation of what a healthy ecosystem looks like and explores our difficulty in perceiving how ecological, cultural or behavioural norms change over time.

The Terrarium is curated and commissioned by UP Projects for Creative Folkestone Triennial 2021 and Kai Art Center and is supported by CUPIDO, a project co-funded by the European Union, Arts Council England and Tallinn Culture Department. VR, duration variable, (featuring parts of Anthropocene Island TAB17 by ecoLogicStudio and excerpts from The Terrarium Inventory by Graham Fitkin). <dcterms:title><![CDATA[Beckett in Folkestone, shot in 360° format (shorten version) - a film by Manuel Vason]]></dcterms:title>
<dcterms:description><![CDATA[ This film is a specially commissioned version of its one hour long original, offering a unique opportunity to experience Beckett in Folkestone. Through this film, you will walk in the footsteps of a mysterious performer personifying both a member of the public and Beckett himself. The original film was premiered at Creative Folkestone Quarterhouse in June 2021 as part of Folkestone Book Festival.

In March 1961 the author of Waiting for Godot (1955), Samuel Beckett (aged 54), mysteriously booked a room for two weeks at the Hotel Bristol on the Upper Leas in Folkestone under his middle name, Mr. Barclay. Beckett was keen that his Folkestone marriage to his long time partner Suzanne Dechevaux-Dumesnil remain a secret and so during his stay he was deliberately stealthy for fear of being recognised.

To mark the 60th anniversary year of Beckett’s wedding in all its intrigue, Folkestone Book Festival commissioned an indoor-outdoor promenade event which audience members experienced one at a time. This included three short fictional monologues specially written by acclaimed writers, Helen Oyeyemi, Rupert Thomson and Eimear McBride in which they portray three Folkestone residents who observed Beckett during his stay - a receptionist at the Hotel Bristol, a local stringer for the Daily Express newspaper, and a witness, possibly invited off the street, to the wedding at Folkestone Registry Office.

Initially commissioned as documentation of the promenade performance the Beckett in Folkestone film, shot entirely on 360° format, now has a life ofits own as an innovative and experimental film.

The film was funded by CUPIDO, a project supported through the Interreg North Sea Region Programme which is part of the European Regional Development Fund.]]></dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description><![CDATA[With dance, storytelling, and modern technology, Rottneros mansion in Sunne lights up in the spectacular façade show. Light without borders, Saturday 4 September 2021, 20:00
Video mapping and visual effects, synchronized with dance and storytelling, make for a magical and spectacular experience!

Dance students from Sunne Kulturskola and theatre students from Unga Västanå tell a fairy tale from Värmland in interaction with the visual projection on the manor façade. Inspired by Selma Lagerlöf's immortal stories. The story comes to life, dressed in new language.

Nome Cultural School in Norway participates. Professional dancers are on stage and are also incorporated into parts of the projection.

In Sunne we find ourselves in the land of fairy tales where Rottneros manor is Ekeby in Selma Lagerlöf's Gösta Berlings saga (1891). In the mid-1950s, the visionary Svante Påhlson made sure to design a Rottneros that could match the saga's Ekeby in the visual video mapping.

With the performance Light without borders, the cultural heritage of Rottneros Park is managed and redefined for 2021. The aim of the project is to make cultural heritage visible for our time and for the future through modern technologies and contemporary art.

The first edition of “Lights without Borders” took place in Nome, Norway in April and now the second edition was performed in Rottneros Park, Sunne, Sweden within the framework of the international cultural development project CUPIDO.

CUPIDO stands for Cultural Power – Inspire to develop rural areas and is a project within the Interreg North Sea Region Programme, led by Värmland County Administrative Board in Sweden.
