The ship ran aground in the bay between Newark and Tresness. Luckily all 137 passengers and crew came ashore safely. They were distributed among various farms where they resided for a month until another vessel was dispatched from Germany for the emigrants to continue their journey. As a thank you to the island they left behind their ship’s bell. This hung for many years in the bell tower of the Cross Kirk.
