<dc:title>Broch of Burrian 1</dc:title>
<dc:description>The Broch Tower itself - the interior of which was excavated in the 18805 is the centre piece of a very extensive Iron Age settlement which stood on the shore of Strom Ness. On the Broch's landward side are the buried remains of a village
beyond which are two deep fortification ditches. The settlement was evidently occupied late into the Pictish period to 800 AD or even later for among the relics found were several objects which were distinctively Christian. The Buman Cross found inscribed on a flat piece of stone at this site has been adopted as a motif in modern Orkney jewellery.</dc:description>
