Title

Rhine

Description

In late March 1945 the Allies crossed the River Rhine. Highland regiments, including the Camerons, Gordons, and Seaforths, crossed on boats, facing machine-gun fire from the Germans. After successfully reaching the eastern bank of the river, the Seaforths advanced to the small village of Groin. The Seaforths captured Groin at night. The action at Groin was described by Lieutenant Borthwick (who took part in the attack) as ‘the hardest village fight the Battalion ever fought’.
