Title

Sferro Hills

Description

In July 1943 German forces held the Sferro Hills on the eastern side of Sicily. The Camerons and Seaforths were among the British soldiers tasked to clear the hills. The Germans put up a determined defence, and the rocky mountainous landscape presented considerable challenges for the attackers. Fierce fighting took place amongst small farms and olive groves. The British capture of the Sferro Hills helped trigger the German withdrawal from Sicily.
