<dc:title>Sanday Heritage Centre</dc:title>
<dc:description>The Heritage Centre is situated in Lady Village in the formal Temperance Hall and was opened in May 2014. The main areas of display are Natural History, (nature on land, links and shore), Archaeology, (Sanday ‘archaeologically has the best landscape in Orkney’), Farming, (Sanday, the granary of the North) and the Sea, (At the turn of the Tide).
In one corner there is a section on World War I. There is an area on Shipwrecks and our new display for 2020 was the board display of Scapa Flow and the Scuttling of the German Fleet. with the B98’s part in the Battle of Jutland.
The most recent requisition is the Appiehouse Stone, found under a floor in a house in Lady Village. This is a Pictish/Christian Stone.
The Horne Room is our Reference area which holds a lot of records for Family History and former displays. Here we hold the Sanday Photographic material and Oral History archives.</dc:description>
